Throughout my own therapeutic journey, I've come to understand how nerve-wracking the counselling process can be. However, through my strengths-based and trauma-informed approach, my goal is to guide you on a path towards self discovery as I gain insight about your strengths and help you tap into them.
I tailor each treatment plan based on my client’s individual needs, making my approach eclectic and organized. I have experience working with those who have struggled with general mental health concerns, including (but not limited to), depression, anxiety, dissociation, grief and trauma . My practice is also LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent friendly.
I gravitate toward evidence-based approaches such as: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Eclectic modalities, Emotionally Focused, Gestalt, Narrative. I hold a respect for trauma-informed therapy and have recently completed a course through Pain Foundations BC to help support people struggling with chronic pain.

Mike has been with us since January 2025!. He is currently completing the last phase of his Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology with Yorkville University. Let's read what Mike has to say:
Hello, my name is Mike Ross. I’m currently completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. While I’m new to counseling, I bring with me decades of life experience and a deeply held Christian faith that guides every aspect of my work. My background is in Pastoral Ministry; I graduated with a double major in Religion and Youth Ministry from Kingswood University in 1998 and have spent nearly 30 years working with children, youth, and families.
My faith is the cornerstone of my identity and informs my approach to counseling. I believe that each person’s story is precious and meaningful, and I’m dedicated to creating a supportive, compassionate environment grounded in Christian values. My wife and I moved to Saint John 24 years ago, where we raised three amazing children and remain active in our church and community.
In addition to my formal education in counseling, life itself has been a teacher. I have firsthand experience with raising a daughter with autism and developmental delays, and I’ve firsthand knowledge with chronic pain, addiction, grief, anxiety, and depression. I’m passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families find hope, healing, and purpose.
My counseling approach is primarily Psychodynamic and Transgenerational, focused on understanding you, your story, and what makes you who you are. By exploring the people, places, and experiences that shape your life, I hope to help you write the next chapter of your story with faith and purpose. When issues require a quick resolution, I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help you regain balance and confidence.
I look forward to meeting you, hearing your story, and walking alongside you on your journey.
Session fee is $40 per visit

Julia has been with us since May 2025! She is completing the last phase of her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Read on to see what Julia has to say:
My name is Julia Besner, and I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. My background is in nutrition counselling, and as a Registered Dietitian have helped individuals of all ages and their families navigate nutrition from starting solids for babies to eating at the end of life, and everything in between for the past 20 years. I have a passion for helping individuals overcome disordered eating, and eating disorders, and have been an advocate for better eating disorder care in our community. Life continues to teach me many lessons as I navigate womanhood, parenthood, acculturation as an immigrant, life with a chronic illness and our ever-changing world.
My counselling approach is humanistic. I believe in your innate worth and focus on what matters most to you. I don’t see you as broken or deficient but as a human being with life experience and strengths. I hope to create a space of care and compassion, so that you may find a way to do that for yourself too.
I draw from person-centred, psychodynamic, experiential and existential theories, and practice through a trauma informed and social justice lens. I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey of growth, healing and well-being.
